Improvement of knowledge and skills with the participation of foreign specialists

On April 2 of the current year, the specialists of the State Institution "RSSPMCMandChH" took part in a medical conference with international participation, organized by the National Children's Medical Center.

During the conference one of the main topics of fetal surgery was discussed. It was Spina bifida (spina bifida) – the most frequent congenital malformation of the central nervous system, in which the child has incomplete closure of the spinal canal and formation of a spinal hernia. Quite recently, the only method of treatment for such patients was neurosurgical correction of this malformation after birth. Today, modern pediatric clinics perform unique intrauterine surgeries to close the malformation, which reduces the need for shunt interventions in the future and improves the prognosis. 

The guest of honor of the event - Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor from Florida Clinic (USA) Samer Elbaba, made a report, which revealed the topic: "Intrauterine correction of fetal meningomyelocele", and promoted the relevance of the topic, as meningomyelocele has a significant negative impact on the quality of life not only in childhood but also in higher ages.

The approach to each clinical case is individualized. The indications for surgery, the type of surgical access, the surgical technique, the gestational age of the fetus are selected by the team of specialists, in each case separately, during a consultation. This approach helps to achieve success even in the most complex cases and save hundreds of children from the burden of disability.

A whole multidisciplinary team works on each case therefore a number of professionals were invited to the event: obstetricians-gynecologists, perinatologists, neurosurgeons, fetal surgeons, anesthesiologists and other specialists. 

It is to be mentioned that the specialists of our center: Head of the Department of Fetal Medicine Yusupbaev R.B., Scientific Director of Obstetric Departments Ilyasov A.B., as well as 1st-2nd year doctorate candidates had an opportunity to discuss topical issues of high quality surgical treatment of congenital malformations and their consequences in fetal surgery, with the use of high-tech medical equipment, together with foreign specialists.
